What it is, who it's for, how it works.
Milometry was built because the mileage apps we tried wanted a monthly fee, an account, or both, for something quite simple. So it has neither. The log is a SQLite database on the phone: there is no backend to sign in to, no analytics, and nothing uploaded to us — maps and place names come from Apple or Google, as in any map app, and exports go only where you send them. The hard engineering is the part nobody sees. Noticing that a drive has begun, from a process the operating system would rather keep asleep, took native modules on both platforms, three separate detection routes on Android, and a diagnostics log that never writes a coordinate. It launched on the App Store and Google Play in August 2026, in six languages, and reached the car dashboard with CarPlay a month later. Figures are estimates to help you keep a record — not tax advice.

Automatic recording
Notices you driving away from where you parked, records the route, and stops once you have been still for a few minutes. It needs Always location — and on Android, unrestricted battery — and it tells you when the phone is getting in the way.
CarPlay
A car screen of its own: a Start trip card while parked, live distance, speed, and duration while recording, and a Today tab with the day's drives. Plugging in can start the recording by itself.
Swipe to sort
Right for business, left for personal, with the route replayed on the map as you decide. Tag the office or a regular site once and the next trip there arrives with the answer suggested.
Mileage at HMRC rates
55p a mile, then 25p past 10,000 business miles in the tax year — and a trip that straddles the line is split correctly. Rate presets for twelve countries, every one editable when an authority changes its mind.
Real fuel costs
Log fill-ups and Milometry works out what the car actually returns, prices every journey with it, and splits the fuel between whoever was in the car.
Statements and exports
Every month and every tax year itemised as PDF or CSV. Always-current exports to iCloud Drive, Google Drive, a folder on the phone, or your own NAS over WebDAV.
Knows a train from a car
No corners and a steady speed is a train, not miles. Milometry spots the shape of the journey, asks, and learns from the answer — and quiet mode records the commute without a single notification.
Siri, widgets, Live Activity
Start or end a trip from a Siri phrase, a home-screen widget, or a long press on the icon. On iPhone the Live Activity shows the distance climbing on the Lock Screen.
Words and rates, separately
English, French, Spanish, German, Dutch, and Japanese — chosen independently of the mileage scheme. A French speaker driving in Britain reads French and gets HMRC rates.
