The uplink was always the bottleneck.
On 28 September Starship reached orbit for the first time and released 26 Starlink V3 satellites, each with 22 times the uplink capacity of the generation before. Most connectivity is built for watching. The systems we put on site spend their day sending, and that is the number that has been holding them back.

The phone is the terminal now
Three more direct-to-device satellites went up on 5 August. The phone in a field worker's pocket is becoming the ground terminal, and that changes what an offline mode has to be.
